Applied Probability And Statistics Prerequisite: MAT 244 or [(MAT 243/195) and (CSC 202/210)] This course covers applied probability and statistics (both descriptive and inferential), including random variables and their distributions, and applications of standard statistical techniques. Descriptive statistics include appropriate graphic displays, measures of center and variability, correlation and regression as well as proportions and analysis of two-way tables. Significance tests include t-tests and chi-square tests. The role of historical figures in the development of probability and statistics (e.g. Bayes, Bernoulli, Gauss, Pearson, Tukey) is discussed. Focus will be on a concept development (including simulation and derivation), and analysis and interpretation of real data. Analysis/ computation is facilitated by statistics and mathematics software.
