Explorations in Mathematical Biology Prerequisite: MAT 243 This course is designed to introduce students to college- level knowledge in Mathematical Biology. It includes the formulation, analysis, solution and interpretation of mathematical models in biology, ecology, pharmacology, microbiology, epidemiology, medicine and physiology. Model analysis will require the use of software such as Maple. The course will divide into three parts: mathematical techniques, applications and multidisciplinary research. Techniques: Introduction to Differntial Equations, Difference Equations and Statistics. Mathematical and Statistics. Mathematical and Statistical Analysis of Model Equations Applications: Population Dynamics, Stem Cells, Concentration of DNA, RNA Reaction Kinetics, Gene Networks and Regulation, Viral and Immune System Dynamics, Network Analysis. Multidisciplinary Research: Apply techniques learned to an applied problem that will require at least some mathematics, computer science and biology. 3.000 Credit hours 3.000 Lecture hours Levels: Undergraduate Schedule Types: Lecture Mathematical Sciences Department Prerequisites: Prerequisite MAT 373 General Requirements: Course or Test: MAT 243 Minimum Grade of D May not be taken concurrently. |
