An introductory couse about chemistry and the role it plays in our everyday lives. Topics include general chemistry, an introduction to chemical compounds, and introductory biological chemistry and how these areas of science relate to current societal issues such as pollution, food, and drug development. Laboratory exercises will provide experience in observation, experimentation, and analysis of data. Three hours lecutre, two and a half hours laboratory work per week.
