Play has long been recognized as an important mediator in the emergence of cognitive, language, and social and emotional competence in early childhood. Research indicates that play experiences in preschool and primary grade classrooms, if intentionally implemented, can support academic learning outcomes. In this course, students will be guided in applying recent empirical studies on play and learning to support mathematical and scientific thinking, language, and literacy in preschool to third grade classrooms.
