Rhetoric and Cultural Studies
Prerequisite: ENG 130 or 200 or 204 or 242 or 271 or 272

This course will critically analyze the cultural beliefs and attitudes of North American society as represented in various cultural rhetorical texts. In particular, we will focus on both visual land cultural artifacts such as films, music, advertisements, fashion, sports and the internet, and explore how these artifacts hold particular beliefs and attitudes about how we as a nation view individuality, family, education, race, gender, sexuality, class, nationality, age, religion and ability. Students will discuss and analyze cultural texts using select rhetorical approaches and Cultural Studies theories and develop an understanding and appreciation of the varying perspectives and influences of North American culture.
