Women Writers From French-speaking Countries
Prerequisite: None

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the works of major writers from Francophone areas, namely North and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, and Canada, and the cultures of these regions. A careful reading of the works at home will lead to an in-class discussion and analysis of themes, characters, setting, and style that will shed light on topics and issues particular to these areas including: religions and beliefs, polygamy, women's conditions, feminism, exile, colonialism, traditions, corruption, and violence.
