Revolution and the Early Republic, 1763-1828 Prerequisite: None The American Revolution transformed thirteen colonies into an independent nation, and the Constitution laid the foundation for the new republic. Even so, it took several decades before the country was on firm ground. This most critical period of American history is viewed through the momentous social, political, and economic changes that accompanied the creation of the United States.
