HSC 308 - Principles of Toxicology |
Principles of Toxicology Prerequisite: HSC 215 or HSC 318 This course provides students familiarity with basic building blocks of toxicology, and it enables to develop knowledge and understanding of the adverse effects of chemicals so that they can form their own opinion about the potential harm exposure to chemicals may cause. Students will be introduced to the history of toxicology and to the principles of the subject. Students will learn about the treatment of poisoning; how toxins form animals, micro- organisms and plants produce their deadly effects and how some chemicals and ionizing radiation affect: a)embryo/fetal development and b) induce carcinogenesis by damaging DNA.
