MUS 228 - Pop/Rock/Hip Hop: Indie Music
Pop, Rock, & Hip Hop: Indie Music in the Mainstream
Prereq: LAC student with T1SS course or ELAC student

Drawing case studies from roots music, pop, rock, and hip hop, this course explores the complex relationships between indie music movements and mainstream consumer culture. Topics include the tension between individuality and conformity, local and global fanhood, the rejection and courtship of fame, independent and coporate record labels, agency and control, taste and social identity.
