BIO 120 - Organismal Biology with Lab
Organismal Biology With Laboratory
Pre or Co-Requisite: CHE 210/212 or CHE 211/213 Prerequisite: Placement in MAT 135, 155, 155P, or 243 or completion of a Tier I/Foundational Math course Course may not be taken concurrently with BIO 240
NOTE: There is a $50.00 lab fee for this course

The structure and function of organisms is the focus of this course. After a passage through the clade of living organisms, we consider the basic problems faced by all living organisms and compare the diverse solutions that have evolved among bacteria, archaea, protists, chromists, rhodophytes, plants, fungi, and animals. The fundamental concepts include: cellular structure, homeostasis, growth, movement, behavior, reproduction, and evolution. Laboratory exercises involve both observation of and experimentation with living organisms. This writing-intensive course provides up to 2 points toward the 8 points required to meet the university intermediate writing requirement for biology major and minor programs. Course must be completed with a grade of C- or better. This course may not be taken concurrently with BIO 130 without the express written consent of the Biology Department Chair or designee. Three hour lecture, three hour laboratory.
