An introduction to the topic with a historical overview of discoveries leading to photographic technology; from the earliest to current digital imaging. This course is for an absolute beginner but is also information rich for students with experience. Lab demonstrations focus on the properties of light and exposure, learning to exploit available light conditions for portraiture as well as studio lighting for copying flat art-work. Comprehension of visual perception skills regarding light conditions. Digital camera function regarding ISO sensitivity, exposure controls, White Balance and use of shutter and aperture controls for creative expression, are covered in lecture and hand-on lab activities. Composition theory and visual communication are emphasized at the start of the semester and throughout.
